A Scottish family tradition, brought to East Texas.

The Hideaway Tea Society was founded in Hideaway, Texas, by Kelsey Moreira and Tanya Wood — two friends, brought together over their love of food, building a recurring afternoon tea ritual.

Six chapters a year. The Upper Lodge at Hideaway Lake Club. Sunday afternoons at two. The Society convenes by membership and by reservation, with each chapter dressed as its own world.

Kelsey Moreira

Entrepreneur & granddaughter of a Scottish tea tradition.

Kelsey is the founder of Doughp, the edible cookie dough company she launched in 2017 after a decade-long career at Intel that began when she was sixteen. She has appeared on Shark Tank twice, been named to Forbes 30 Under 30, and led Doughp into the Inc 5000 list of America's fastest-growing companies. She has been sober since 2015, and has spent much of the last decade building businesses, advocating for mental health and addiction recovery, and learning what it takes to make something from scratch.

The Hideaway Tea Society is a different kind of project. Kelsey's grandparents came to Texas from Troon, Scotland in the late 1950s and settled in Hideaway more than forty years ago. Her Nana hosted with Scottish hospitality and a generations-old shortbread recipe. Her Papa, now ninety-six, still lives in Hideaway and still drinks three cups of black tea every day - with a healthy dose of cream & sugar, of course.

In 2017, Kelsey traveled to Scotland with Papa — just the two of them — and took afternoon tea at Gleneagles. Three tiers on silver. Loose-leaf poured tableside. A choreography that felt like a tradition someone had been keeping for centuries. It’s an afternoon she thinks everyone deserves to experience.

The Hideaway Tea Society is what came of that afternoon. Nana's shortbread is served at every chapter. The tradition is kept where three generations of the family have called home.

Tanya Wood

The bringing the magic to each table at every chapter.

Tanya is a private chef who has spent her career cooking for the families who hire her — quietly, attentively, and at the highest standard. Her food is made from scratch, sourced thoughtfully, and built around real ingredients: pasture-raised proteins, whole grains, anti-inflammatory pairings, beautiful produce at its season.

For The Hideaway Tea Society, Tanya designs and produces every menu — the savories, the scones, the sweets, and the small details that make each chapter feel like its own world. Parisian pastries for Valentine's. A pimento cheese reimagined for April. A Father's Day menu that feels like its own kind of welcome.

Tanya brings to the Society what Kelsey brings in heritage: care, considered taste, and the quiet conviction that a proper afternoon is worth the labor it takes to make one.

THE PARTNERSHIP

The Society is co-founded and built on shared standards. Kelsey holds the brand, operations, hospitality, and the heritage thread. Tanya holds the food, the kitchen, and the menu through every chapter. Together they share the conviction that Hideaway deserves an afternoon tea kept properly, season after season.
